I have recently moved back to the UK to complete a funded MRes and PhD in Energy Demand in the Built Environment at the London Loughborough (LoLo) Centre of Doctoral Training at UCL. Having previously worked on the supply side, I am keen to get involved modelling Demand side consumption in non-domestic buildings and hope to publish some of my work here. Previous work from my Masters in Chemical Physics from Edinburgh University (dissertation on modelling a bulky molecule by combining theoretical and electron diffraction data) was published here.
I still maintain a strong interest in the oil industry after a decade in petroleum engineering consultancy working on projects in 12 different countries in companies such as BP, Shell, Enquest, OMV, Hess, Cairn, GdF and others. I graduated with my MSc in Petroleum Engineering from Heriot-Watt after finishing my dissertation with Shell in Stavanger, modelling constrained gas lift flowlines. My areas of expertise have been in integrated asset modelling, artificial lift design, sand control and delivering loss management systems. Currently I am involved in developing a well testing platform using statistical methods within the Integrated Production Optimization Services (IPOS) group. My previous work history can be viewed here.
I keep fairly busy in my spare time, on the sport side balancing running cross-country and organising the annual Fuller’s Thames Towpath 10 with West 4 Harriers. My main running passion is orienteering and I am heavily involved in competing and putting on races for my local club SLOW and developing an Edinburgh uni alumni club AROS. In 2013 I completed a 3000km + charity cycle ride back from Romania to the UK with one of my colleagues and have run 8 marathons with a PB of 3:13:20.
I am a keen chess player maintaining a top 60 place among active Scottish players and playing for Alba in the UK national league having previously been a Scottish Boys U-20 champion. I am also on the fund raising committee of a small charity Evergreen Africa which runs educational and health projects for orphans and widows of conflicts in Uganda.
As well as following my research at UCL, I hope to give regular updates on the subjects I am passionate about above and hopefully provoke a bit of discussion!
